Did you have someone who helped you when you were very new in your job? Of course you did. Everyone, somewhere in their career, needs the counsel of a more senior professional. This person was your mentor. Your mentor over time helped you mature and grow into your job and career. Your initial questions were replaced by confidence, resourcefulness, and new skills. New career paths are more readily navigated with a mentor acting as a guide and supporter.
STC-PMC wants you, our seasoned technical communication professionals, to invest in the future of tech comm by becoming a mentor this year. We are partnering with local universities, such as Drexel and Villanova, to help connect undergraduate and graduate students in technical communications with local STC-PMC professionals.
The STC Mentor board http://mentorboard.jobtarget.com/stc helps match up student mentees and STC-PMC mentors. Students do not need to be an STC member. Both the STC-PMC mentor and student mentee create profiles. The STC-PMC mentor adds a note that indicates they are a STC-PMC member and want to work with a university student in the Philadelphia area. The mentee adds a note that indicates they are a Philadelphia area student and want to be mentored by an STC-PMC member. Both the mentor and mentee can specify the details of their skills sets and areas for growth in the STC Mentor Board.
