Are you a people person? Do others call you a social butterfly? Do you have a secret skill of being the ultimate event planner? Do you like bringing people together who have common interests? Would you like a leadership role where you don’t have to be number one, but are happy in a supporting role? Do none of these describe you, but wish they did?
Here’s your big opportunity. The position of Vice-President of the STC-Philadelphia Metro Chapter is opening up for next year. What does the Vice-President do? In addition to supporting the President, the primary role of the Vice-President is to set up chapter meetings and webinars for members to get together.
By volunteering in this position, you have an opportunity to learn and grow in a safe environment where the entire team supports you. Hesitant because you’re not directly from the Philadelphia area? Neither was our current Vice-President. (She’s a Jersey Girl.) Don’t think you know what people are interested in, and don’t have connections? That’s what our Vice-President thought, too, but with member help, she was able to bring some exciting programs to our membership, and she can help you do it too.
It’s also an opportunity to bring the kind of topics that YOU think are important for helping Philly Metro area technical communicators to the chapter meetings and webinars. Do you think we need more social events? You can plan them! You think we need more speakers or different speakers? You can bring them in and set up a presentation date in person or via webinar! The choices are endless!
BUT…you can’t do this unless we know that you are interested in running for this elected position. You know you want this role, so why wait? Our elections are coming up. Send a note to email@example.com, and let her know you want your name on the STC-PMC election ballot today as Vice-President. If you have any further questions about the role, you can contact our current VP at firstname.lastname@example.org.
