PMC has created a meetup group on www.meetup.com: http://www.meetup.com/Society-for-Technical-Communication-Phila-Metro-Chapter/
So what is Meetup.com? From their website:
“Meetup is the world’s largest network of local groups. Meetup makes it easy for anyone to organize a local group or find one of the thousands already meeting up face-to-face. More than 9,000 groups get together in local communities each day, each one with the goal of improving themselves or their communities.
Meetup’s mission is to revitalize local community and help people around the world self-organize. Meetup believes that people can change their personal world, or the whole world, by organizing themselves into groups that are powerful enough to make a difference.”
PMC is hoping to reach out to members of our local community and entice them to participate in our meetings, even if they are not current STC members.
Why should you join Meetup.com? Well, it is free to join, and you can list as many interests as you like. It isn’t just for technical communication. If your interests range from backpacking to bookmaking to knitting to bird watching to home brewing to surfing, then there are meetup groups out there for you.
So go ahead a create your free Meetup.com account, join the PMC group, and also explore your other interest and find out who in your area shares those same passions!
After the snow storm on the 8th, our holiday party was rescheduled to the 15th, with a great turnout! Thanks to everyone who participated, especially Karen Levine who hosted.
