Chapter nominations are on the horizon. Typically we ask you to think of someone who you may think will be interested in running for an elected office. This year, we want YOU to think about running for an elected role within the chapter for 2023 – 2024.
When considering leading an organization, one typically thinks of someone else who could do the job. Why? Maybe it’s because you don’t think you have the skills to do the job or you do not have the confidence to do the job yourself. Whatever the reason, if you ever thought you could do it better than you have already thought you can contribute to the success of the chapter. But why have you not stepped up?
3 Reasons Why You Think You May Not Run
1. You are always juggling work and life balance.
2. You do have a single minute open in our daily schedule.
3. You don’t have the leadership know-how.
If you answered “yes” to any or all of these statements than you could hold the qualities to be a wonderful leader. But if you are worried about the time you have available to conduct the duties of President or Treasurer, then check out our website for more information. With a dedicated Council your conceived time availability can be greatly diminished.
3 Reasons You Should Consider Running for Office
If you don’t feel you have the leadership skills, build those skills with STC-PMC. As President, you will run monthly meetings, delegate work to team members, reach out to other techcomm professionals to host webinars, and all while seeking the advice and support of our Past-President and other seasoned committee leaders.
2. You Already Practice Your Collaborative Skills
You collaborate every day with team members. You coordinate schedules, manage multiple tasks with similar deadlines, balance your work priorities with that of your team, and pull everything together for your boss.
3. You are a Natural Communicator
You have been communicating with people since you can’t remember when. You’re easy to talk to. You have lots of ideas to share, and you love to contribute to the success of your organization.
So those skills you thought you didn’t have, you have been practicing for years. So why not consider running for Chapter President or Treasurer? You have the skills, the mindset, the work ethic, and the support of your fellow Council members and chapter membership. For more details about the duties of both positions, check out our website.
Nominations for the 2023 – 2024 Chapter Council will be here shortly. Think about it. We know you’ll crush it!
